When deleting folders in Eagle, the system will ask whether you want to move the folder contents to the trash. Depending on your choice, files will be handled differently. This article explains how to retain files and return them to an "Uncategorized" state when deleting folders.

Basic Folder Deletion Operations

When you delete a folder containing categorized files, the system will display a prompt window asking you to choose whether to "move folder contents to trash." You have two options:

Check this option and click "Confirm Delete": The folder and all files within it will be moved to the trash
Uncheck this option and click "Confirm Delete": Only the folder structure will be deleted, and files will be handled according to their categorization status

File Handling Methods

Based on the categorization status of files, when you uncheck "move folder contents to trash," files will be handled as follows:

Files That Exist Only in the Deleted Folder

These files will automatically be moved to the "Uncategorized" section. After deleting the folder, you can find these files in "Uncategorized" in the left navigation bar.

Files Categorized in Multiple Folders

If files are also categorized in other folders, after deleting one folder, these files will not be moved to "Uncategorized." They will remain in their other categorized folders.

To find or delete these files, you need to:

Go to the other folders where the files are located
Use filters or keyword search functions to locate these files in the library
Perform operations on the files as needed

Important Notes

Before deleting folders, please confirm that your choice meets your expectations, especially for folders containing large numbers of files
If you're unsure about the categorization status of files, it's recommended to first check file properties or use the search function to confirm
Files deleted from the trash cannot be recovered, so please proceed with caution
